About the Archive.....
The Isadora Duncan Archive is a non-commercial digital archive and research platform dedicated to preserving, organizing, and expanding access to the choreographic legacy of modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan and subsequent generations of Duncan practitioners.
Designed as a centralized and continually evolving resource, the Archive brings together repertory documentation, video recordings, music references, and scholarly materials that illuminate Duncan’s technique, choreography, philosophy, and historical impact. Visitors to the site can explore a repertory index detailing the music and context of individual dances, a directory of contemporary Duncan dancers, and a growing network of print and media resources linked to institutions, libraries, museums, and private collections worldwide. The site encourages the collaborative sharing of this historical, philosophical, and stylistic content in a fully protected and credited format. Additionally, it supports the inclusion of new choreography inspired by Duncan’s style, movement vocabulary, and artistic vision, reflecting the living and evolving nature of her work.
By connecting distributed collections and fostering responsible, credited sharing, the Archive creates an accessible global network of knowledge. It serves dancers, scholars, and researchers while sustaining an active dialogue between past and present, in turn advancing Isadora Duncan’s enduring intention that her work be carried forward, reinterpreted, and developed by future generations.
