Duncan Symposium History
The Isadora Duncan International Symposium is a gathering of dancers dedicated to preserving and furthering Isadora Duncan's dance legacy. The first symposium took place in 2013 at George Washington University in Washington, DC, and was organized by a Steering Committee that included Valerie Durham, Jennifer Sprowl, Cynthia Word, Ingrid Zimmer, and Meg Brooker. The success of that first event led to biennial gatherings at venues including Joffrey Chicago (2015), ODC Dance Theatre, San Francisco (2017), and The Place, London (2019). IDIS has been on hiatus since the pandemic and plans to reconvene in person to honor the centennial of Duncan's death in 2027 are underway.

Contribute to the Vision
The vision for the Duncan Legacy Project is a nonprofit umbrella organization that encompasses the Isadora Duncan Archive, the Isadora Duncan International Symposium and future projects to benefit the international Duncan dance community. Donations are being accepted via the Duncan Symposium PayPal to further this goal. Contributions made directly via Paypal are not currently tax-deductible. We hope to announce a tax-deductible method to contribute very soon.
