Call for Proposals for the 2027 Isadora Duncan International Symposium- Radical Freedom: Dance, Liberation, and the Body

​We are pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for the Isadora Duncan International Symposium, taking place in Paris from June 29–July 2, 2027.    Location: Conservatoire Municipal Maurice Ravel

Conservatoire Municipal du 13e Arrondissement, 67 Avenue Edison,  75013 Paris, France

 

Theme: Radical Freedom: Dance, Liberation, and the Body

Inspired by the enduring legacy of Isadora Duncan, this international gathering will bring together artists, scholars, educators, students, and interdisciplinary practitioners from around the world for four days of dialogue, movement, research, performance, and exchange. Together, we will explore how dance engages with freedom, resistance, creativity, and the expressive potential of the body across historical, contemporary, and future perspectives.

ALL SESSION PROPOSALS SHOULD ADDRESS THE CONFERENCE THEME.

PLEASE SUBMIT ONE FORM PER PROPOSED SESSION. MAXIMUM 3 PROPOSALS PER APPLICANT.

Proposal Due Date: September 15, 2026

Notification Date: December 15, 2026

 

Session Formats can include:

  • Movement-based session

  • Movement + presentation/lecture

  • Scholarly research presentation

  • Panel discussion

  • Informal performance presentations

  • Dance film or video screening

  • Other innovative or interdisciplinary formats

Performance Presentations:
Performances will be programmed in the auditorium, the studio, or other locations-- see submission options below. Suitable for works-in-progress, excerpts, or site-responsive performances.

 

We look forward to gathering a dynamic international community for four days of dialogue, practice, and exchange.

All accepted presenters will be required to register and pay the registration fee which covers attendance for 4 days.

  • Regular rate: $275 

  • Early Bird $225 (must register by March 29, 2027)

  • Student (ages 18-25) $175 

  • Senior  (60+) $200
